Here is my question for this edition:

Are you planning to watch the 82nd Annual Academy Awards ceremony this Sunday night? If so, which film do you believe should be named Best Picture? The ten nominated films are:

  • Avatar
  • The Blind Side
  • District 9
  • An Education
  • The Hurt Locker
  • Inglourious Basterds
  • Precious
  • A Serious Man
  • Up
  • Up in the Air

My answer:

I’m having a group of friends over this Sunday evening and we’re going to watch the Oscars together. We are printing ballots and voting — then we’ll see who most accurately predicts the actual winners.

The nominated films that I have seen so far are Avatar, Precious, and Up in the Air. By Sunday night, I plan to have also watched The Hurt Locker and District 9.

At this point, I am hoping Up in the Air wins Best Picture because I loved it. It is a brilliant movie with excellent performances and an engaging script that leaves you thinking about the movie’s message long after you see it. It is timely and timeless.

  1. I probably will not watch. I never go to the movies so I have not really seen anything that is up for an award and I really do not care who wins. πŸ™‚

  2. I will watch depending on what else is on. From the list I’ve only seen Up in the Air, Precious and District 9, so my choice would be Precious.

  3. I usually watch but I am usually more interested in the lifetime achievement award because that is where a person of great standing and talent gets an award for the totality of their career.

  4. Yeah, I prefer watching the lifetime achievement awards as well.

  5. I know I’m coming in here after the fact with respect to the question, but was anyone else surprised that the Hurt Locker did so well? Maybe I was just falling for all the hype surrounding Avatar.
