Interesting question - I really enjoyed your article. I suspect most humans are prone to cliques, but your commitment to eglaitarian cyberspace is admirable...

Well, I never really thought about it, but I believe the blogs you can get to are all open to the world. If it is really a clique, they probably are run out of sight of the search engines, with a password to view. That way, you wouldn't get 'commoners and undesireables'.
And, we wouldn't even know those ones existed.
The rest of us all want visitors, as long as they agree with us most of the time and tell us we are wonderful

So far, I haven't seen much evidence of cliques, generally I have found bloggers happy to talk to each other. Though your post has got me thinking about motivations. Just how honest are the "relationships" that are formed online?

For example, this comment, is it just a disguised way to get a link-back or is it because your post genuinely moved me to speak?

To me that's the problem with online relationships and personas. There is always, to some extent, an uncertainty. There are times when we can meet, such as at conventions or if we are geographically close and I can see that that is where the cliques can form as friendships can be solidified.

Like you there are a lot of blogs I will not go near simply because I'm not interested in the subject matter so in that sense I am "cliquish" ;) but isn't that just human nature?

<em>Colin King's last blog post..</em><a href='http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CkMarketing/~3/190954191/' rel="nofollow">New Traffic Source and Some Pocket Money</a>

I think some people just naturally draw a crowd. Other times, it is just people with similar views and experiences connecting.
There may be a bit of a clique-ish tendency, but I am not sure it is the same as it is in high school. I think you are right that there is a limited number of people that we can communicate with and still continue with our lives.
I agree that it is important to try make sure others do not feel left out.
